Professional Journey

Internet Marketing Manager
BT-INS
2007-2008
I helped set strategic and tactical objectives for internet marketing, and provided insights and vision to internal clients on enterprise blogging/social strategy. I built a high-quality new website for BT Diamond IP, integrating an ASP.NET CMS system with a modern javascript framework, and trained the marketing team to self-sufficiency on the system. All while supporting internal and external sites, and improving their design, usability, and back-end processes.
Senior Information Architect / Business Analyst
INS (formerly Immedient Corporation)
2000 – 2007
  • I radically shifted the user experience of a variety of web, mobile, voice and desktop applications, turning complex, obscure, plodding systems into delightfully empowering workflows, integrated dashboards, interactive UIs, and flash visualizations, for various clients.
  • I discovered the true needs of users and audiences, through formal and guerilla-style user experience research and fieldwork. I recruited developers, managers and clients into the research teams, as part of a secret plot to lay the foundations for highly effective and user-focused project teams.
  • Sidestepping corporate politics, I stoked the fires of passion to energize and educate client’s teams on user-centered, goal-directed approaches… and to motivate clients to hire us.
  • I acquired a reputation as an able “fixer”, air-dropped into risky and/or failing projects to turn them around in a matter of weeks, as well as re-establish trust with difficult and/or furious clients.
  • I coded endless lines of code, in ASP.NET, XHTML, CSS, Javascript, XML and other acronyms.
  • I painted countless pixels, and curved many a vector, designing subtle, clean, engaging interfaces, demos, simulations, presentations and applications.
Senior Web Programmer
USA.NET and TeleTech
1998 – 2000

I designed and developed these two companies’ corporate websites, integrating backend-generated Flash multimedia, which was becoming all the rage, with traditional HTML design. I also designed and built various internal web-based applications, using Flash, ASP and ColdFusion, which won high praise from their users for their effectiveness, ease of use, and sense of humor.

Web Designer
networkMCI and Freelancing
1994 – 1998
I architected, designed, and built over 40 websites of tremendous variety. I pioneered the use of bleeding-edge web-based radio and video for networkMCI’s internal communications, and successfully transitioned their newsletter to the web. I administered web servers on Silicon Graphics, NeXT, and Windows platforms, and trained over 20 users on basic web development.
Graphic Designer
Q• Image and ACK Services
1990-1994

I was a co-founder and designer in both these graphic design companies in Paris, France and Denver, Colorado. In 1993 we pioneered the use of internet email (NeXTMail) to enable team members spread across the globe to collaborate in real time.
